SUMMARY:Innovation Fund Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Innovation Fund is one of the world’s largest funding programmes for demonstration of innovative low-carbon technologies with the focus on Innovative low-carbon technologies and processes in energy intensive industries\, including products substituting carbon intensive ones\, carbon capture and utilisation (CCU)\, construction and operation of carbon capture and storage (CCS)\, innovative renewable energy generation\, and energy storage. \nETIP Bioenergy\, in collaboration with the ART Fuels Forum\, ETIP Renewable Heating and Cooling and Bioenergy Europe\, is organizing the Innovation Fund Stakeholder Workshop on Renewable Fuels and Bioenergy on the 12th of September 2019 in Brussels. The workshop has the aim to to collect project ideas from the renewable fuel/biofuel and bioenergy sectors and to discuss key sector-specific issues with regard to the selection and management of projects. The one-day workshop will include presentations from DG RTD\, DG Clima and will present the key issues for the 1st Innovation Fund Call. Key items of the workshop represent: \n\nThe project presentations from companies in the renewable fuels/biofuels and bioenergy sector\, which will describe the basic features of the projects\, such as the innovative technology and final products\, its technological readiness level\, expected GHG emission reductions and project development timeline.\n\n\n The discussion around key issues related to the preparation of the first call.\n\nThe workshop will identify key issues specific to the bioenergy and renewable fuel/biofuel sectors and/or cross-cutting issues which will be conveyed to DG Clima. The overall target is to provide industrial contribution for the preparation of the 1st Call\, in order to increase the exploitation of the fund and to achieve the overall objectives of the Innovation Fund. \nAll presentations and outcomes of the workshops will be made publicly available on DG Climate Action Innovation Fund webpage to ensure transparency of the process.

DESCRIPTION:16 January 2019 – Higashihiroshima City and Art Center Kurara\n \nHosted by the 14th Conference on Biomass Science and co- organized by the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition with the support of the Free University of Bozen and The Japan Institute of Energy. \nIn recent years\, the use of wood and wood residues for heat and power production from small-scale decentralized plants has increased in Japan\, thanks to the growing interest in renewable energy and to the adoption of a supportive National policy framework. \nAt the same time\, ongoing research and technology developments across Europe led to significant improvements to small-scale biomass gasification systems and to the implementation of several commercial applications in Europe and worldwide. However\, continuous research is still needed to tackle some issues related to the optimization of both processes and technologies in this sector. \nThis seminar will gather researchers and professionals from Europe and from Japan to share updates and knowledge on the topic of combined heat and power production using small-scale gasification technologies\, promoting national and international research networks. \nThe presentations will introduce the recent technological and research trends in small-scale biomass gasification technologies\, the points of strength and the critical issues to address\, for an efficient and sustainable production of energy and materials. Solutions and strategies to increase the flexibility of the process will be discussed\, such as load modulation and fuel flexibility\, as well as effective pathways for the management and the valorisation of gasification by-products such as char and tar. SUMMARY:EU Energy Day at COP24
DESCRIPTION:On 11 December 2018\, the 6th EU Energy Day will take place in Katowice\, as part of the EU side events programme at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP24. \nIt will showcase some of the initiatives launched to support a clean energy transition in the EU and beyond and advertise the progress already made towards delivering on the EU’s commitments\, including with the 2030 targets and Clean Energy Package. \n2018 has seen great progress made towards delivering on the EU’s energy and climate commitments\, including the new 2030 targets and the Clean Energy for all Europeans package. To make sure that all European citizens and the EU economy fully benefit from this transformation\, it is necessary to undertake a profound change in the way energy is produced and used. This has been highlighted in the European Commission’s recently presented strategic long-term vision for a prosperous\, modern\, competitive and climate neutral economy by 2050. This Strategy shows how Europe can lead the way towards climate neutrality by investing in technological solutions\, empowering citizens\, and aligning action in key areas such as industrial policy\, finance\, or research – while ensuring social fairness for a just transition. \nThe EU Energy Day will thus be an occasion to discuss the different aspects of these upcoming challenges\, and together with Members of the European Parliament\, representatives of national and local governments from EU Member States and other countries\, the renewable energy industry\, entrepreneurs/innovators\, stakeholder associations\, academia and civil society\, will showcase some of the initiatives launched to support the clean energy transition in the EU and beyond. \nThematic sessions will be devoted to: energy decentralisation and democracy; the integration of renewables in our daily life; and global value chains and international cooperation on innovation. DESCRIPTION:The SEEMLA and ADVANCEFUEL projects are pleased to invite to their joint event and workshop\, taking place on 20-21 November in Brussels\, Belgium. \nThe SEEMLA project\, funded by Horizon 2020\, has implemented a sustainable land-use strategy for sustainable production of plant-based energy on marginal lands. The so called ‘SEEMLA approach’ developed an integrated set of processes\, analyses and tools that incorporates environmental\, ecological\, social\, economic and biophysical criteria\, whose objective is the re-conversion of degraded and MagL for the production of bioenergy through the direct involvement of farmers and foresters\, the strengthening of local small-scale supply chain and the support of the EC Roadmap commitments to a Resource Efficient Europe. \nADVANCEFUEL is a Horizon 2020 project\, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the future energy mix by increasing the share of sustainable advanced biofuels and renewable alternative fuels in the final EU transport energy consumption. The whole value chain will be assessed in the course of the project and ADVANCEFUEL will regularly engage key players to validate project results on specific topics and to contribute to the development of supporting guidelines and tools. \nThe event is organised with the co-operation of a number of other EU projects: working in the fields of innovative cropping schemes on marginal land (FORBIO\, MAGIC\, BECOOL\, LIBBIO) as well as value chains and business models (UP-RUNNING\, GRACE). \nAGENDA \nOn the morning of 20 November\, the SEEMLA project will hold its final event\, to presents its developed approach and other results from the project\, in the context of the EU’s policies for advanced biofuels and bioenergy. \nOn the afternoon of 20 November and the morning of 21 November\, ADVANCEFUEL and SEEMLA will hold a joint workshop\, contributing to the ADVANCEFUEL project’s understanding of barriers regarding biomass supply.
