SUMMARY:SEEMLA Final Event and Joint ADVANCEFUEL-SEEMLA Workshop
DESCRIPTION:The SEEMLA and ADVANCEFUEL projects are pleased to invite to their joint event and workshop\, taking place on 20-21 November in Brussels\, Belgium. \nThe SEEMLA project\, funded by Horizon 2020\, has implemented a sustainable land-use strategy for sustainable production of plant-based energy on marginal lands. The so called ‘SEEMLA approach’ developed an integrated set of processes\, analyses and tools that incorporates environmental\, ecological\, social\, economic and biophysical criteria\, whose objective is the re-conversion of degraded and MagL for the production of bioenergy through the direct involvement of farmers and foresters\, the strengthening of local small-scale supply chain and the support of the EC Roadmap commitments to a Resource Efficient Europe. \nADVANCEFUEL is a Horizon 2020 project\, which aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the future energy mix by increasing the share of sustainable advanced biofuels and renewable alternative fuels in the final EU transport energy consumption. The whole value chain will be assessed in the course of the project and ADVANCEFUEL will regularly engage key players to validate project results on specific topics and to contribute to the development of supporting guidelines and tools. \nThe event is organised with the co-operation of a number of other EU projects: working in the fields of innovative cropping schemes on marginal land (FORBIO\, MAGIC\, BECOOL\, LIBBIO) as well as value chains and business models (UP-RUNNING\, GRACE). \nAGENDA \nOn the morning of 20 November\, the SEEMLA project will hold its final event\, to presents its developed approach and other results from the project\, in the context of the EU’s policies for advanced biofuels and bioenergy. \nOn the afternoon of 20 November and the morning of 21 November\, ADVANCEFUEL and SEEMLA will hold a joint workshop\, contributing to the ADVANCEFUEL project’s understanding of barriers regarding biomass supply. The event will scrutinise innovative cropping schemes\, explore the challenges and opportunities of different supply and value chains\, and compare potential business models of feedstock provisioning. \nAn evening reception will be held on the afternoon of 20 November\, open only to those who are participating in other sessions. \nThe full agenda can be accessed here.

SUMMARY:BiogasAction Project Final Event – Unlocking the Potential of Biogas
DESCRIPTION:Biogas has a role to play in the current energy transition. It is a green gas which can provide flexible and secure energy supplies to reach the recently agreed 32% renewable energy target in final consumption by 2030. But the opportunities of this resource need to be fully unlocked. With this objective in mind\, the partners of the Biogas Action project would like to invite you to a half-day conference that will look at the opportunities and challenges of the biogas sector in Europe. This will be the occasion to present the results of the project started in 2016. \nWe are\, therefore\, pleased to invite you to our Final Conference “Unlocking the potential of biogas for energy transition”\, which will be taking place on the 11th October at Palais des Academies\, Brussels. \nBiogas Action was carried out to boost the potential of biogas as a renewable energy by increasing the biogas and biomethane production in EU territories\, removing the non-technical barriers to create better frameworks for the widespread production of biogas and biomethane. The final conference will look at the opportunities and challenges of the biogas sector in Europe. On this occasion\, policy makers and representatives from the industry will offer an overview on the regulatory framework and perspectives on biogas development.  You will also hear project partners presenting some of the results related to the promotion of sustainable biogas and focused on regional pre-conditions and approaches. \nDon’t miss the chance to meet a dynamic consortium of biogas partners\, together with EU policy-makers\, local representatives and other stakeholders. Join us to learn from an inspiring biogas overview that will unveil the achievements and recommendations needed to unlock the potential of biogas in Europe.

SUMMARY:REFAB 2018: High-tech Strategy for a Sustainable Biomass Supply
DESCRIPTION:New conference in Cologne\, 1 and 2 October 2018\, highlights advanced technologies for food and biomass production of the future.\nThe conference “Revolution in Food and Biomass Production” (REFAB) in Cologne on 1-2 October 2018 will bring together all future-oriented experts from companies\, start-ups and research to have a look at the future of food and biomass production. \nWhat high-tech strategies are emerging on the horizon to sustainably supply a growing world population with healthy food – and at the same time provide industry with sustainable biomass for environmentally friendly products? The conference gives a unique opportunity to meet the pioneers and forerunners of the future of food and biomass production. \nFrom REFAB 01/02/18 Press Release by nova-Institut GmbH. \n“For the first time in history\, we understand in detail how a healthy soil works\, what role bacteria and fungi play in the nutrient uptake of plants and trees. We know how to achieve healthy and productive soils with biostimulants while nitrogen-fixing bacteria will reduce the use of additional nitrogen. Precision farming with Artificial Intelligence (AI)\, robots and drones can help to fertilise and protect plants more efficiently and with lower environmental impacts. Latest gene editing technologies can improve plant ingredients and make better use of solar radiation with an updated photosynthesis system. \nMariculture or marine farming is about to become an important sector. This means the cultivation of marine organisms for feed\, food and other products in the open ocean and enclosed sections of the ocean\, in tanks\, ponds or raceways filled with seawater. Forestry will supply a wide range of chemicals and bio-based products in biorefineries\, including environmentally friendly textile fibres. \nWith indoor farming in our kitchens and vertical farming on an industrial scale\, healthy food can be produced efficiently and locally. Insects\, algae and bacteria can be used to develop new sources of protein. Bacteria can even digest CO2 to produce feed proteins for aquaculture. Institute for Ecology and Innovation  \nOrganic farming as well as smallholders will also strongly benefit from many of these new developments and increase their efficiency while respecting their original ideals and principles. Food and biomass production will be possible even under the most extreme conditions: In dry areas\, “greening the desert” will become reality through solar technology\, deep water or desalination plants as well as hydroponics. In the icy north\, productivity can be increased through LED lighted greenhouses and some technologies will even enable food production in space stations\, on the moon and on Mars.” \nPlease find information on the Call for Papers\, sponsoring opportunities and other important details on this website. www.refab.info \n
