Leaders of Sustainable Biofuels<\/strong>\u00a0held its Annual Meeting in Brussels on June 5th<\/sup>, 2018 where representatives of 13 leading advanced biofuels companies gathered to discuss the status of policy developments and the state of play in the industry.\u00a0 Members unanimously re-elected\u00a0Marko Janhunen<\/strong>, Director, Public Affairs of UPM as Chair of LSB for the upcoming year.<\/span><\/p>\n

LSB was founded in 2012 to promote the uptake of advanced biofuels, and to support specific mandate for advanced biofuels in EU legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe welcome the fact that in the past years, advanced biofuels have been recognized as a fast-track option to decarbonize transport. At this very moment many countries are looking to outline their strategy for reaching the decarbonization targets set out by the Paris climate agreement and advanced biofuels can play a significant role in that\u201d, states Marko Janhunen.<\/span><\/p>\n

LSB welcomes the current policy discussions on RED2 and the proposed specific mandate for advanced biofuels, based on Annex IX part A. LSB considers such a measure necessary to create investor security, and to unleash the potential of the sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

LSB\u2019s members are committed to making a significant contribution to meeting the EU\u2019s ambitions of decarbonizing the transport sector. Advanced biofuels bring multiple benefits in terms of CO2<\/sub>\u00a0reduction, investments, revenues for farmers and forestry, improved waste management practices, job creation and an increase in energy security.<\/span><\/p>\n
