Guido Ghisolfi has passed away

Guido Ghisolfi, 58 years, vice-president and a managing director of the Mossi & Ghisolfi Group has passed away. He was suffering from severe depression and this resulted in his untimely passing close to his home last Tuesday in Tortona, Northern Italy. The family and the Mossi & Ghisolfi Group management wish to express their immense and deep regret.

Guido Ghisolfi was a rare Italian entrepreneur with great skills, perseverance and intuition. He was able – together with his father Vittorio and his brother Marco – to lead the Group to become a global organization. The Mossi & Ghisolfi Group today is one of the global leaders in the field of plastics and in the field of chemicals derived from renewable sources, in the last of which, in particular, Guido Ghisolfi showed outstanding inspiration, courage and dedication.

The whole biofuels community was touched by the sad news. ” Guido Ghisolfi has passed away. His death touches all of us in the advanced biofuels industry,  wrote Marko Janhunen, Vice President, UPM Biorefining and chairman of the Leaders of Sustainable Biofuels. Guido was a business man with a vision, and one of the most influential advocates of the advanced biofuels industry worldwide” he continued.

Guido was the initiator of the Leaders of Sustainable Biofuels coalition, a mixed group of industry leaders that met in Milan in the summer of 2012 to discuss how we can work together to strengthen the voice of our industry, says Marko Janhunen. We came to the conclusion that by working together our companies coming from plastics, specialty chemicals, aviation, energy, forest industry and other industries  will be able to  deliver the message needed. Since then our work together has become increasingly intensive and our voice stronger. Without any hesitation Guido was elected as the first chairman of our coalition, and he led our efforts in discussions with the European Commission, European Parliament and the Member States.

We remember Guido as a passionate colleague who was pushing for transformation. Our world needs leaders who make change happen. Change does not happen without dedication, passion and inspiration for making a difference. Our thoughts are with the family and with our colleagues at Biochemtex, a company that built the first advanced biofuels plant by Guido in Europe, concluded Marko Janhunen.
